The Postman

The quiz is on Tuesday.

As for topics, I'll just say this: Review the chapter headings. If you understand, for example, what Postman means by "The Medium is the Metaphor," then you'll have little trouble explaining on the quiz what Postman means by a phrase like "technology is ideology."

Furthermore, a chapter is titled "Shuffle of to Bethlehem" -- it is about religion. What is Postman's take on televised religion? Asking yourself similar questions about the other chapter titles would be a good way to study for the quiz.

Can anyone help with the last chapter about the Huxleyan Warning? I read the chapter and highlighted some things but I am still somewhat confused on the overall idea.

Make sure you have the papers going back a couple of weeks. Otherwise, don't throw them away--recycle them.

HELP!!! - I was wondering if anyone could help explain from Ch. 9 what Postman means when referring to "the three networks" and also what he means by "censorship"?

I don't have my book next to me at the moment, but I'm pretty sure the three networks are NBC, CBS, and ABC. As for censorship, it means prohibiting or suppressing information, usually (I would say) by a government.

What is the media is the epistemology chapter really about? its hard to understand.

Do we need to know anything about Fidel Castro for the quiz on tuesday?

It wouldn't hurt you to know something about Fidel Castro, whether or not it's on the quiz.

Media as epistemology is basically the idea that our media technologies shape our modes of thought.

I know my thoughts dont count but I think this book would be more understandable if we had a quiz on fewer chapters like two every week

What is the Huxleyan warning? I read the chapter but I am still lost. Please help me..

The Huxleyan warning, is, of course, derived from the message of Brave_New_World.
in which human society has been stripped of family, culture, and most everything we currently value but exists in a hedonistic dream state.

I just have a random question...where can we get our graded quizzes?

When will our grades be posted for the rest of our quizzes? The only one up on the D2L is the McLuhan quiz? Just wondering. Thanks.
