Global Theater is a better question and how it morphed from Global Village.

That is a fascinating question, but it won't be on our quiz.

When sputnik was launched it draped the world as a proscenium arch and turned the global village into a global theater. It also created space ship earth and tuned all of us into crew (from passengers.) Hence creating the ecology movement, said Professor McLuhan

One more comment, if I may. Regarding extensions showing McLuhan's intuitions being proved--
"The findings "fairly clearly show that monkey tool use involves the
incorporation of tools into the body schema, literally as extensions of
the body," says Dietrich Stout, an archaeologist specializing in tool
use at University College London. Scott Frey, a neuroscientist at the University of Oregon, Eugene, says that in humans, this ability to represent tools in the brain, combined with a capacity for innovation,"was no doubt a fundamental step in the development of technology.""

I'm a bit confused on Poe's Maelstrom, could someone help me out?

The Maelstrom is a metaphor for McLuhan's overall project. We must understand the patterns and nature of the vortex so that we might escape its crush.

Hi Professor,
Its Emanuel from class. This blog is very helpful. Does anyone understand the term acoustic environment? I think I got it somewhat. Something along the line we rather hear what we see. Any thoughts?

I would also like to understand more about the acoustic environment if anyone could explain.

The acoustical environment is antithetical to the visual. You have no earlids. It is allatonce and from all sides. The visual, on the other hand, is rational, linear and segmented. The acoustic world of tribalism surrounds you and its information is simultaneous.

More than enough time! Did you write a novel?

It wasn't told how much time was allocated for the quizz. I was on number 2 when he said we had 5 minutes left.

I agree that there wasn't enough time. I thought we'd have more time! Are all our tests and quizzes only goign to allow for that much time? Because that definatly was not enough!

i think that it was plenty of time. it was a quiz. you shouldnt need a half hour for a four question quiz.

The allocated time for the quiz should have been told beforehand.
